Joana Vizgirda has more than 15 years of petroleum industry experience including applied research, product development, consulting and teaching. Her expertise is broad-based and encompasses geological, geophysical and geochemical aspects of petroleum systems, with a focus on integrated computer basin modeling.

While working at Gulf R&D and Mobil Oil, Joana was responsible for researching the influence of various physical processes, including sedimentation, thermal history, geochemical reactions, and fluid flow, on the development of hydrocarbon provinces, and for applying this research in a practical exploration context. She was involved in the early stages of computer applications to predictive generation models, and has developed, tested and evaluated both in-house and commercial basin modelling software. She has a working knowledge of Basin Mod, PetroMod, and Temis Pak.  Her consulting experience is extensive and includes petroleum system studies in the U.S. and Canada, Europe, North and West Africa, Southeast Asia, Australia and the Caspian Sea region.
